With much experience in family business, we can speak from the family perspective and help clients create a healthy frame within which the family relationships and the business can thrive. That might include helping an older sister (who is strong) work well and professionally with her younger brother, and help him grow into a top leader. This work is different with each family, and clearly some families are more likely to blend the roles well than others.
Business success occupies much of our time, but when the unexpected occurs we remember the ultimate importance of relationships.
Being on the right course is one of those things that can keep us CEOs awake at night. But unplugging every now and then can focus our minds on what aspects of what we do really make the biggest difference for the people around us.
CEOs must manage energy flows carefully to protect themselves and their companies against power surges that could blow their circuits. Circuit breakers blow for a reason - there’s something wrong or they wouldn’t have blown. But instead of sitting in the dark as the circuit blows, it’s better to be standing in front of the power panel.
